VEICHI Subsidiary GT Electric Secures RTG Electrification Project for OICT Terminal in Oman

Recently, Changzhou GT Electric Co., Ltd. (“GT Electric”), a subsidiary of Suzhou VEICHI Electric Co., Ltd. (“VEICHI”), signed an RTG electrification project with Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (ZPMC) for the OICT terminal in Oman. The project marks an important milestone in GT Electric’s international expansion and further strengthens VEICHI’s presence in the global port industry.

Located at Sohar Port, Oman, OICT is a key container terminal connecting trade routes across the Arabian Gulf, the Indian subcontinent and East Africa. Jointly operated by Hutchison Ports and Oman’s Asyad Group, the terminal plays an important role in supporting Oman Vision 2040 through logistics development and economic diversification.

The project covers the electrification retrofit of 11 rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs), the deployment of battery peak-shaving systems for 12 new RTGs, and related infrastructure upgrades. The solution incorporates VEICHI’s AC800 multi-drive platform, including DC/DC, AFE and CVCF modules. Designed to support low-carbon terminal operations, the system also helps reduce peak grid demand and improve available power capacity. Once completed, the project is expected to lower energy consumption and maintenance costs while enhancing equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
