AC solar water pumping system harnesses the sun's energy to power an AC water pump. It's made up of three main parts: solar panels (photovoltaic array), solar water pump inverter and AC solar water pump. Solar ac pumping system is a popular choice for watering crops in agriculture, providing water for homes, and fighting desertification. The three-phase AC motor-driven water pump in the system can be used as a replacement for AC water pumps powered by mains electricity or diesel engines available on the market, and it has excellent compatibility. At the same time, the AC water pump breaks through the power limitations of DC water pumps, with a power range from 150 watts to 105 kilowatts, making it suitable for the needs of large-scale farmland irrigation, desert control, and reclamation.

Working Principle of AC Solar Powered Water Pumping System
- Energy Conversion: The photovoltaic array absorbs solar radiation and converts it into direct current (DC) electricity.
- Inversion and Driving: The solar water pump inverter converts DC electricity into alternating current (AC) to power the AC water pump. The inverter also features maximum power point tracking (MPPT), which adjusts the output frequency in real-time according to the intensity of sunlight, ensuring the system operates efficiently under varying light conditions.
- Pump Operation: Draws water from the source and either fills a storage tank or directly feeds into an irrigation system.

Pumping into pressure tank
To maintain 24-hour pressure, batteries and a reverse action pressure switch are utilized. The pressure switch is connected to the VEICHI controller. Once the pump fills the pressure tank to the desired psi, the well pump is turned off. When there's a pressure drop (due to an open valve or timer), the pressure switch activates the pump to refill the tank and maintain the pressure. The table below indicates which VEICHI pump systems are ideal for well pump pressure. Generally, as the head increases (e.g., deeper well, higher pressure, steeper hill), the volume a pump can produce typically decreases along its pump curve.
Pumping into Storage + Booster Pump
Another widely-used method involves installing a battery-powered booster pump to pressurize the water from a storage tank. This pump features an integrated pressure switch that automatically turns the pump off when valves or timers are closed, and back on when the valves open. The battery for this booster pump can be charged either using a solar panel with a charge controller or a standard AC battery charger.
Pumping into Elevated Tank
This setup is the easiest way to achieve 24-hour water pressure for irrigation purposes (provided you have some elevation on your property). Run plumbing from the well pipe to your elevated tank, and install a check valve on the pump to prevent water from siphoning back down into the well from the tank. For every 2.31 feet of elevation the tank has above your plants, you get 1 psi of pressure. To supply drip lines, you need a minimum of 20 psi, which corresponds to a tank elevation of 45 feet. For sprinklers, you require 45 psi, which means the tank should be elevated by 100 feet.
